FAQ
Q. What is it?
A. There are many programs in place that protect students at school, like the Free and Reduced Lunch program. The Children's Weekend Food Program (CWFP) is a program that ensures that local students are well nourished outside of school. By providing kids with food packs for weekends and breaks, during the school year, we are hoping to provide every student with the food necessary to fuel their bodies and succeed at school.
Q. How does it work?
A. CWFP is entirely volunteer based. Each week, volunteers receive and shelve the food, pack food bags and deliver to teachers at local schools. On Friday (or the day before a break), teachers distribute the bags, discretely, into their student's backpacks. To maintain anonymity, participants names and information is only disclosed to teachers.
Q. Who can participate?
A. Families can consider their family’s economic status and determine if this program would help their child/ren. If you are able to provide sufficient nutrition without assistance, please allow this program to be used by others.
Q. When does the child receive the food pack?
A. The child will receive the food pack at school on Friday or the day before an extended break from school.
Q. How do I enroll my child/ren?
A. If you would like to participate in the program, please contact your child’s school and ask for an enrollment form to be returned to the school after being filled out with child’s name, grade and teacher’s name.
Q. What is the cost of the program?
A. The projected cost of CWFP operation is approximately $44,000.00 per year. It costs approximately $206.00 to support one child for a year.
Q. I am interested in volunteering. Is this a possibility?
A. Yes!!! Volunteers are ALWAYS welcome! Please see our Volunteer Opportunities page for more information!
